A blog about the things I do and like
Is your name already registered as a domain name? Don’t know? Click here to check.
I know mine is. Some bastard already has the .com! It’s some guy from Italy that sells decor design stuff, so I had to register the .net. Even the .com.au was taken by Anthony Lipari Hairdressing in the Eastern States. So why would you need your domain name? Well, if your name isn’t already registered as a .com or .net, I suggest you BUY IT STRAIGHT AWAY! But what’s the point right? Well owning your own domain name is like owning a piece of land, and land is selling fast, really fast! Even if your name isn’t already taken now, chances are it could be 10 years down the track. Now you may be thinking, who else in this world, that has the exact same first and last name as me, is going to think of registering it as a domain name and setting up a website? THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT! And sure enough it was already registered, so I had to settle for second best, the .NET
What could you do with your domain name? Well you could setup a blog like this one, and talk about all kinds of random jiberish like I do. If you’re into cars, or sports, or Pony riding, why not dedicate your blog to those categories only? You could attract quite a crowd if your content is good.
You could even just forward your domain to your Facebook, Myspace or Youtube page. So when people go to yourname.com, it comes up with your Facebook profile. Instead of telling people to add you by going to “facebook.com/my-weird-user-name”, just say to go to MyName.com. People are more likely to remember your actual name than your username.
You could setup a photo gallery about your life, or a video gallery, and upload all of your photos on there for people to come look at and comment on. Plus it would be a good way to backup all of your photos onto the web incase you deleted them somehow.
So how do you get your own domain? Well it’s really easy, all you need to go is go to www.GoDaddy.com, enter the domain that you want, and if it’s available, just click Continue to Registration, setup an account, enter your credit card or PayPal details and Register! It only costs $10 per YEAR! $10 a year for owning your name as a domain on the internet, you will secure your actual name on the internet forever! Your domain will be setup in minutes. But what do you do after that? Well if you want to setup a website, you’re going to need hosting. Hosting is ridiculously cheap on GoDaddy, it’s like $5 a month, compared to $20 a month on Australian hosting websites. So why Godaddy then? Because they are the largest domain supplier in the world, are very secure and easy to use, and best of all, insanely cheap!
If you do end up registering your name as a domain, please comment and let me know what you registered and what you plan to do with it! Whether you’re going to setup a blog, setup a photo gallery, setup a random website, or just forward it to your Facebook, I want to hear about it.
If you have any questions or problems with registering, just ask ![]()
Hi. My name is Anthony Lipari. Here I blog about the things I like, the things I do, and the things I hate too.
