A blog about the things I do and like
For those of you who don’t yet know, I’ve started an online cooking show called Cooked TV. I host and edit the show and my friend Carlos is the camera man and also has his own segment called Drinks With
Carlos. It goes for 15 to 20 minutes, and is a bit different to your standard cooking show. As you will be able to tell, I am not a qualified chef or cook, and have hardly any cooking experience. I cook simple things that I have learned to make over the years, and if I stuff something up in the episode, I will show it. It’s full of jokes, swearing, bloopers, unique film like intro’s and outtros, and each episode is themed to suit whatever guest is on the show, or to whatever meal I will be cooking.
Why make this show?
I was trying to cook chocolate brownies one night, and totally stuffed up the ingredients and it was a disaster when it came out of the oven. Having a laugh to myself, I was thinking, this would be really funny if it was on a show! Speaking to Carlos about the idea, we both agreed that it could be pretty successful. Jumbling over some names for the show, Carlos suggested it be called Cooked TV. I headed over to Super Cheap Hosting and quickly registered the domain cooked.tv. I originally wanted www.cooked.com but it was already taken, but .TV has proved to be better suited to our needs.
Most of all, the show is mainly for fun. It is a lot of fun to make, and even more fun to edit, so why not? It doesn’t make any money no, but it’s only been 3 episodes, and there’s been no money invested besides camera hiring costs. I have absolutely no experience in film making or camera techniques, and I have spoken to lots of guys in the industry and they have told me that for not knowing anything, it is bloody good work! Also the show seems to be very well branded for its size.
What does the future hold for Cooked TV?
Setting aside all the negative comments we receive, that are backed up by a lot of positive comments, we will continue to make the show and set a first goal at 20 episodes. We have already planned ahead and written up intro’s for the upcoming episodes, as well as who will be a guest on the show. We typically try to have a guest cook on every 2nd episode. The show comes out fortnightly, but if we had more money and time to invest, it would definitely become a weekly effort, but I can’t quit my day job yet!
The show has around 400 subscribed viewers so far, all of which are friends of ours. We will work on getting up to at least 10 episodes first, then perhaps focus on promotion, getting the word out there, spreading the show. We have already printed off heaps of T shirts, jumpers, bumper stickers, so there is definately potential.
Enough talk, check out the website and watch some of the episodes for yourself. Please note that episode one was a bit messed up, I was very hungover and it was my first time so give me a break! Episodes 3 and 4 are where the show starts to build momentum!
Thanks to Danilo for the awesome drawing of me and Carlos!
