The other day at work a friend of mine who is a Christian came up to me and started to carry on about how beautiful the world is and how perfect it is. He regularly goes snorkeling at the beach in the low tide to have a look at the reef and all the fish and plants and all that. He then continued saying that the stuff he finds when he goes snorkling and the beauty that he sees is just so amazing that this world had to be created by a God. Specifically the Christian God. I always reply to this argument by saying that the world is not perfect at all, there is just as many bad things that occur in this world than perfect things such as tornadoes, earth quakes, disease, starvation, floors, extreme heat, extreme cold, being killed by a dangerous predator, and so on. But then he still doesn’t think deep into that and replies with, “well we need all those things because without them, the world wouldn’t work, we wouldn’t have a life. When one person dies, another person survives.”

So in other words he’s saying that without that 5 year old child dieing from cancer, someone else would have died, and the world wouldn’t work. But fails to explain exactly why, he just says it wouldn’t work. I just cannot see how a child being killed from a disease, or a baby dieing at birth, or a grandmother being bashed to death and robbed, helps the world to work… it just doesn’t make any fucken sense!

Anyway, apart from this argument he lead to another argument reguarding time, because he always declines the fact that the universe could have always existed and it cannot be created nor destroyed, instead he always argues that God created the world in the beginning, before the universe there was nothing. To this statement I always ask, well who created God? How could God just be the first thing ever, what happened before? And he answers with, God invented time, so time doesn’t exist in heaven, hell, or anything other than this universe. Before the universe there was no time, it was just nothingness!

Now…I thought about this, and realized that it’s the most stupid argument at all, and he had no thought into it himself, he just said it. Not only that, where the fuck in the Bible does it say God invented time? No where. Anyway here we go:

Let’s say you’re in heaven, you get there and the first thing you see is the big pearly white gates, and this big gates are 20 metres away from you. So the first thing you do is walk, the 20 metres towards the gates. 10 seconds later when you have arived at the gates, you stop, look behind you and remember where you were 10 seconds ago. That’s right, you were 20 metres away 10 seconds ago. THAT’S TIME PEOPLE! As long as there is anything, there’s time!!! You can’t say that someone invented time, because time is just always there, having invented it or not. As long as you can remember what you did 1 second ago, there’s time. Now, in heaven, if you couldn’t remember the thing you did 1 second ago, or even 1 millisecond ago, then time wouldn’t exist. There would be no past if time didn’t exist. Therefore time exists no matter what!

OK, let’s just say we forget about heaven and the universe. All there is is nothing. Just God. In the bible is says that God created the world in 7 days, now yes I know this may not be 7x 24 hour days, we wouldn’t know. But no matter what it is, even if it was 7 milliseconds in reality, is that still not time? Of corse it is. Even without anything, and just God himself, there is time! He said it himself!

So theists, do you now understand that no matter what, time exists. Even in heaven, and even without anything at all? Good. So what do we learn from all this, if time always existed, then the universe always existed, nothing created it, nor can anything destroy it. It’s hard to get your head around I know, it is for me as well, but thats reality. Until the day when a big magical man comes up to me and flies and makes a naked woman appear out of thin air, and calls himself God, I won’t believe. But to say that you believe that anyway, because it’s faith, is crazy.

Thanks :D
